Can't win them all....

Raodi and I drove to Calgary on Friday to try for the third leg on her RN.  Unfortunately, it was not to be!  We stayed with the fabulous Lisa, who's going to be our neighbour if I get into vet school, and she told me all about what dog walking parks etc. are in the area.  Raodi seemed to settle in well at the show, and was working well in the practice area, but when we got into the ring she was in outer space.  She spent the first half of the course looking around and sniffing the ground, and I got a lot of deductions for leash corrections, trying to get anything like her attention and cooperation.

Half way through the course, I did a 270 left and she stood there and watched me go around her instead of turning with me for an NQ (non-qualifying score).  After that the light went on in her head and she seemed to realize that we were in the Rally ring and it was time to work, isn't that always the way?  From that point on we had no deductions (and I know that the judge marked us to the end of our run, he didn't just stop recording because we'd NQ'd) and she showed what she was capable of, unfortunately it was a little late!

I can't go to Camrose in March, because I'm already scheduled to be in two other cities that day (someone had better hurry up with the cloning technology!).  Her breeder has offered to take her and show her for me, but I'm still thinking about it.  I'd really like to get her title on my own if I can.  I may just enter her for Red Deer in April... she's not scheduled to come into heat until the end of the month, and the show is at the beginning of the month, but she's never read the book on what she's supposed to do and her cycle can be unpredictable.  I also think that we'd better start doing more training indoors (her first two legs were at outdoor trials, and she concentrated much better there) Petsmart here we come.....
