Reading is Fun!

Today is national Family Literacy day, so I spent the day volunteering for the Family Literacy Carnival at MacEwan University.  The carnival was put on jointly by the Center for Family Literacy and the MacEwan chapter of the Golden Key International Honours Society.  There were 8 centers with themes like technology, history, health, and storytelling, and families that got at least 4 stamps on their event passports were able to choose a book at the Center for Family Literacy table.  I was the center leader for the Story Center, where we had the kids acting out fairlytales, and I also took a turn telling stories on the main stage.  I'm sitting at home now watching the news coverage from the event and feeling like a bit of a celebrity along with Shannon and Ellie (Raodi's dam) who came out and read to kids and were also on the news.  Kids are always so engaged by the dog!  The day was a rousing success with all the volunteers and the families I talked to, and if I'm still at MacEwan next year I'll definitely be taking part again!
