Another windy day... I guess that's what I get for living on the prairies. But it's beautiful out, and looks like staying that way for a while. Perfect weather to work with a feisty yearling.
I kept today short (about 20 minutes) and simple. We worked on varying the pace, though not up to a trot yet, and I tried to impress upon her that trying to bite me is not an acceptable way of expressing disagreement with the plan. Time will tell whether that part of the lesson stuck. Yearlings will try what they will try, after all. Gossip was a very good girl on the whole, and I'm honestly nothing but thrilled with her. She picks things up very quickly, and her bravery means that new things are taken very much in stride.
After our training session she got a good grooming, including gently untangling the witches' knots in her mane and tail. She thinks that being groomed is one of the best things ever, which makes it pretty easy to reward a job well done. Even a wither rub with my gloves on (they have the rubber pimple things on the palms for grip) makes her a very happy girl. At this rate it won't be a huge project to get her shiny for the show, but we'll see how the bathing part goes. I'll have to make a plan to introduce her to the hose....
The only thing that would have made today better would be if I'd had my phone out and not had my hands full when a bluebird spooked the herd. I got to watch some of the beautiful movement that makes me salivate to get her into the dressage ring, but there's no video evidence. Instead, I'll leave you with a shot of my shiny girl enjoying life.
